Aspects of Matter
Property - characteristics of matter
1. Properties of H2O:
physical
- colorless
- no definite shape
chemical
- boiling point: 100 degrees celsius/ 212 degress fahrenheit
- freezing point: 0 degress celsius/ 32 degrees fahrenheit
2. Change
>
a difference of physical and chemical properties of substance
(i.e.) liquid -> gas = evaporation
solid -> gas = sublimation
3. Structure
> arrangement of particles or atom
(i.e.) H2O, CO2
4. Law
> system of truth
Boyle's Law
Law of Conservation of Mass
> the amount of mass before the reaction is not altered even after the reaction
- principles
5. Composition
>
general make up composition of
water: Hydrogen, Oxygen (H2O)
ammonia: Nitrogen, Hydrogen (NH3)
6. Application
>
putting into action what you have learned
(i.e.) aspirin for headaches
penicillin - used as an anti-bacterial agent
